Memorial Mass for Eugenio Lopez, Jr.

In memory of Eugenio Lopez, Jr. , who was known simply as Mang Geny to the pioneer members of Bahay Dalangin, we will be celebrating a memorial-healing Mass on October 22, Wednesday, at the ABS-CBN chapel. It is because of his commitment to the practice, his generosity, and his vision, that our sangha enjoys the use of the zendos at ELJ and at Sta Ana today. His foresight also led to the establishment of the BD foundation. His legacy lives on through every sitter at Bahay Dalangin.

Healing session begins at 10 AM and Mass will begin at 12 noon. Please take the audience entrance along Eugenio Lopez Drive (across Will Tower).

Sesshin May 8-11, 2014

BAHAY DALANGIN WILL BE holding a sesshin beginning on Thursday, May 8, through Sunday, May 11, 2014 at the Nathan House. Sesshin literally means "touching the heart-mind" and is a period of intensive meditation (zazen). By reducing everyday activities and distraction to a minimum, sesshin offers an opportunity to increase our focus on practice and thus to experience our true nature.

Accommodations
In this spirit, we will be conducting this sesshin with the barest necessities. All participants will be accommodated in group rooms (4 to 6 pax to a room) and will sleep on the floor using their own beddings or using our zafus and zabutons (meditation cushions). You will have a choice between an air-conditioned group room or a non-aircon group room. All toilets and baths will be communal.

Oryoki
All our meals during the sesshin will be done in the Oryoki tradition. Oryoki means "just enough" and is a meditative form of eating that emphasizes mindfulness, precise movements, and simplicity. The practice helps us be aware and show gratitude for the effort of those who prepare the food and also for the life system out of which it came to us. To learn more about Oryoki, view this video (courtesy of Dharmafield sangha). For those interested, we will be conducting Oryoki orientation sessions on May 4 at  Nathan House at 3:30-4:00 PM and on May 5 at 7:30-8:00 PM at the ELJ zendo.

Call to Samu
To prepare for Nathan house for the sesshin, we are calling all members (whether you are joining the sesshin or not) to an afternoon of samu on May 4 at Nathan House at 2:00-3:30 PM (right before Oryoki orientation and yoga session). Samu refers to physical work that is done with mindfulness as a simple, practical, and spiritual practice. We will prepare the oryoki bowls, clean the cushions, and prepare the rooms and zendo.

Only 15 slots are available for the sesshin and priority will be given to full-time participants. Deadline for confirmation of full-time participants is on April 30. If there are still slots available, part-time registration will be accepted until May 3.
